If you’re planning to ship goods between the EU and the UK in 2025, proper documentation is key to avoiding delays, penalties, or even refused entry. Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need:
1. Commercial Invoice
Details the goods, value, currency, sender, and receiver. It’s the base document for customs clearance.
2. Packing List
Lists item quantities, weight, and dimensions. Especially helpful during inspections and unloading.
3. Customs Declarations
You’ll need both:
Export declaration (EU customs)
Import declaration (UK customs)
These must be submitted electronically via the relevant customs system.
At Frocase, we help clients prepare all required documents for smooth and legal cross-border transport – from commercial invoices to CMRs. If you’re not sure what applies to your shipment, contact our logistics team and we’ll guide you step by step.
4. EORI Numbers
Both sender and receiver must have valid EORI numbers (EU and UK issued separately). These are required to move goods across borders.
5. Transport Documents
Depending on the mode:
CMR document – for road freight (required for all road transport across borders)
Bill of Lading – for sea shipments
Air Waybill – for air transport
6. Certificates & Licences (If applicable)
Sanitary/Phytosanitary certificates – for food, plants, animal products
Export/import licences – for restricted goods
Certificate of origin – sometimes needed for preferential tariff rates
7. Driver Documents
Drivers must carry:
Valid passport
Driver CPC
Tachograph card
Visa (if applicable)
8. Insurance
Make sure both vehicle and cargo are properly insured and documented.
At Frocase, we guide our clients through every step of the process — from preparing CMRs and customs docs to ensuring all legal and safety requirements are met. With nearly 20 years of experience in EU–UK transport, we make sure nothing falls through the cracks.
